Does your city have an air pollution?

to be fair, my cities air pollution problem is mostly caused by industr y and wood burning not cars...but it would be a LOT worse without the clean air act.

Like... it’s cars here.
But It’d be shortsighted to believe that the biggest environmental hazards are cars. The big issue about cars in cities is NOX emissions. I mean, if we stopped eating so much meat maybe less cows would fart and that would reduce a lot of pollution .

Boston air seems relatively good. Houston’s was not, though I don’t know if that’s due to cars, refineries, other pollution, or just dust and particulate matter being blown in from elsewhere.

The title of this article is “The Billion Dollar Smog Hoax” and it is arguing that because cars aren’t the single largest source of air pollution, they shouldn’t have to deal with the extremely weak emissions regulations that were going into effect in 1968. In hindsight it’s a laughably bad straw man argument.
This same issue also argues against the adoption of three point seat belts, and claims that cars would need five foot long crush zones to be safe. It’s all pretty funny from the distance of half a century, but they thought they were being perfectly serious at the time.

Beef is overrated anyway.

And while I have no idea if it was true in ‘67, but the transportation sector is the biggest source of smog emissions today. You can argue about whether we need even further action, but it’s pretty clear we’d have a big problem without emissions gear on cars.

I know we dont know the future, but all I can think about is everything this administration does and how terribly its going to age.

All I can need to do is look at LA in 1970 and LA today to see that something indeed worked.
